Mike Bennett

Michael Bennett, 78, passed away peacefully at his home on August 27th under the care of Unity Point Hospice following a courageous fight with cancer.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, September 3rd, at Grace Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge with Pastor Dan Kahl officiating. The visitation will be held from 5-7 pm on Wednesday, September 2nd, at Laufersweiler Funeral Home.

Mike was born on June 28, 1948, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to Richard S. and Virginia Bennett. He graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1966. He married Martha (Marty) Davidson on May 22, 1970, in Elks Point, S.D.

Mike was a proud member of the Iowa National Guard for 6 years. He began his career working as a paint salesman, followed by a long tenure with Josephson Radiator, eventually purchasing the radiator shop in 1988. In 2004 he and his brother Rick purchased the Twin Lakes Marina and owned and operated it until they sold it in 2017.

Mike cherished his family and especially enjoyed anything his children and grandchildren were involved in. He loved spending time with his family at their lake home on Twin Lakes. Mike and Marty traveled many miles, not only supporting their grandchildren's passions, but also vacationing with friends.

He is survived by his loving wife, Marty; his children, Joe (Jennifer) of Ankeny and their children, Carter, Taylor, and Nolan Bennett; Troy of Fort Dodge and his children, Madison, Drew, and Tory Bennett; and Ryan (Bianca) of Cedar Falls and their children, Grant, Sam, and Joe Greazel. He is also survived by his sister, Margo Bennett of Albuquerque, N.M., and sister-in-law, Pat Bennett of Twin Lakes.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Virginia; stepfather, Jerry Coates; and brother, Rick Bennett.
