Marnell A. Nordstrom, 78, of Fort Dodge passed away Thursday, September 10, 2026, at Trinity Regional Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at Holy Trinity Church. A visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Laufersweiler Funeral Home.
Marnell is survived by her loving husband and best friend of 56 years Ron, son Joseph (Sue) Nordstrom of Fort Dodge, daughter Jenny Nordstrom (Tim Guessford) of Des Moines, grandchildren Nick (Jensen) Nordstrom of Huxley, Natalie (Drew) Bacha of Huxley, Neely Nordstrom of Ames, brother-in-law John (Barbara) Nordstrom of Keller, TX, sister-in-law Earlene Nordstrom of Fort Dodge, a host of nieces, nephews, and wonderful friends.
Marnell is preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Margaret (Manning) Durschmidt, brother Randy Durschmidt, in-laws Ray and Evelyn Nordstrom, sisters-in-law Gerry Nordstrom, Jaci (Al) Appleton, Mary (Jim) Freese, Jo (Jake) Johnson, Poodie Sorber, and Tootie (Jack) Jones, and her brother-in-law Don Nordstrom.
Marnell Ann Durschmidt was born February 3, 1948, in Fort Dodge. She attended Corpus Christi School and graduated from St. Edmond High School in 1966. She then attended St. Vincent's in Sioux City and graduated with a degree in Radiology. She was united in marriage to Ronald Nordstrom on October 4, 1969. They made Fort Dodge their home. Marnell worked for 50 years at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Radiology. She retired in 2018. She had an amazing sense of humor and she loved to shop! She never turned down a trip to Costco or Von Maur. Her favorite word was “Ron” and he was her most favorite person as well. They had the most beautiful marriage. They did everything together and loved to travel. Most of their recent travels included driving through the cemetery to look for deer while enjoying a sweet treat from the Snack Shack. And you could always find these two enjoying Thursday happy hour at Olde Boston's. But their favorite trips were ones in which they met up with family. She absolutely loved spending time with family and the way she made Christmas so special will never be forgotten. She also had a tremendous amount of faith and love in God and cherished her Catholic faith.
The family would like to thank the amazing CCU nurses and doctors for their amazing care and support during her final days. She was surrounded by so much love and will be missed by so many. The memories she gave everyone will be cherished forever.
