Jacqueline “Jackie” Kay Surles, 83, of Fort Dodge, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 11, 2026, at Trinity Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 18, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Carpenter Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Laufersweiler Funeral Home.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Theresa Doster, and her husband, Dave, of Moorland, and Andrea Surles of Fort Dodge; along with her three grandchildren, Matthew Surles-Davis, Tristin Doster, and Ellie Doster. She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Edith (Lish) Hepperle, son Matthew Surles, sister Helen Kruse, and niece Becky Fye.
Jacqueline Kay Hepperle was born on December 21, 1942, in Fort Dodge. She was raised and educated in Fort Dodge and graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1961. She worked at the courthouse for a time before beginning her career with Fort Dodge Animal Health (Fort Dodge Laboratories), where she dedicated 28 years of service. During her time there, she worked in international marketing and later in production planning. She retired in 2005.
Jackie was united in marriage to Barry Surles on December 29, 1969. To this union, three children were born, Matthew, Theresa, and Andrea. The couple later divorced.
Jackie enjoyed many simple pleasures in life, including breakfast with her friends, visiting garage sales throughout the community, and playing cards, especially Pitch. Sundays were a cherished family tradition, when everyone would gather together each week for a home-cooked dinner. Jackie took great pride in preparing wonderful meals for her family and always made sure there was a special sweet treat to enjoy afterward. Alongside these special family dinners, she enjoyed keeping an active schedule and attending her children's and grandchildren's activities and sporting events. She took great pride in being present to cheer them on and support them in all of their endeavors.
