The world lost one of its great mothers on Sunday, August 23rd, 2026.
Sally Allard, 87, of Fort Dodge, IA passed away peacefully at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics after a sudden illness. She was surrounded by the ones she loved.
Sally Jean Wyatt was born on a farm near Somers on October 27th, 1938 to Harley Waffle Wyatt and Viola Marie Anderson, their first child. She attended school in Barnum and graduated valedictorian in 1957. She was gifted with clear thinking and mathematical ability leading to her first job at Fort Dodge Junior High School.
On August 14th, 1957 she married Lyle Haldin. They had two sons, Wyatt Lee and David Michael. They spent many good years in the small southern Iowa towns of Kellerton and Grand River where Lyle was superintendent of Grand Valley Community School District. They also enjoyed many happy trips to Sioux Rapids, IA visiting the Haldin side of the family. They returned to the Fort Dodge area in 1975 and built a new home on the Wyatt family farm near Barnum. Lyle founded Haldin Custodial Supply and Sally worked at the Fort Dodge Labs and Greenfield Trucking.
Lyle passed away on August 5th, 1992. She married Raymond Allard of Fort Dodge in 1997 who preceded her in death in 2007. She was also preceded in death by her parents, beloved grandparents Harry and Clara Wyatt and Harry and Inga Anderson, brother T. Michael Wyatt (Roxie), sister Kathleen Martin, and son Wyatt.
She is survived by her son David Haldin of Fort Dodge, sister Merry Wyatt VanCleave Hankel Moore (Randolph) of Williamsburg, VA, brother Denny Wyatt (Josie) of Barnum, daughter-in-law Pamela Haldin of Ankeny, IA, and her superstar grandchildren Jerod Haldin of Milwaukee, WI, Lauren Haldin of Ankeny, IA, and Hankel Haldin of Cedar Rapids, IA. Also by great grandchildren Kade Haldin and Demi Shande plus many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. She also loved Taylor Brandrup and Rian Wisthoff. And, of course, her lifelong friend Marianne Weiss of Barnum.
Sally will be eternally remembered for the purity of her character. She was an unending well-spring of compassion and kindness for those in her life. She was known for making every person she met feel special. Her loving care guided many young people to their fullest potential. She never missed a birthday, anniversary, or opportunity to make those in her life feel truly loved.
She always did her best to steer her wild kids in the right direction and she will be deeply and eternally missed.
Funeral services will be held at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel on Monday, August 31st at 1:00 pm with burial to follow in Oakland Cemetery, Fort Dodge, IA. Visitation for friends and family is Sunday, August 30th from 12:00 pm to 3:00 p.m. at Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
