Marcia Ahlrichs

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Marcia Eileen Cox Ahlrichs, 82, of Rockwell City. She was called home by God after complications from a stroke on July 7, 2026 with her daughter, Jodi, godson, Mark Mogensen and a former student from Manson at her side.

She was born to Orval and Katherine Cox on March 3, 1944 in Hornick, IA. Marcia discovered a lifelong love for music early on in life and received a degree in music education from Morningside College in 1966. Marcia spent 40 years shaping the minds and voices of students, first at Wapello Elementary School and then Gowrie Elementary School. In 1979, she finally landed her dream job at Manson Elementary School teaching vocal and band to grades K-6. Marcia was known for her unwavering dedication to excellence, organizing many memorable concerts and recitals. Beyond the sheet music, she taught her students the value of discipline, teamwork, and the joy of creating music. In addition to being an elementary school music teacher, Marcia also brought music into the homes and hearts of the Rockwell City community by giving piano, organ and guitar lessons.

Whether teaching classical scales to beginners or advanced theory to aspiring musicians, Marcia was a patient, encouraging, and deeply passionate instructor. She didn't just teach the mechanics of music; she fostered a lifelong appreciation for the arts in every student who entered her classroom or sat at her piano bench.

In 1969, she met David Ahlrichs on a blind date and it was “love at first sight”. On July 26th, 1970, she was united in marriage to David Ahlrichs at United Methodist Church, in Hornick, IA. After marriage they moved to the Ahlrichs family farm, in Rockwell City. In 1979, God completed their family by blessing them with their foster daughter Jodi.

After she retired from teaching, she formed the singing trio “Sisters in Song” with Leslie Mogensen and Becky Haberl. They performed at nursing homes, birthday parties and anniversaries!

Marcia is survived by her daughter, Jodi Hooks McCormick, her granddaughter Autumn Maslo (Nick), and her great grandson, Nicholas David Maslo “Nika”. She is also survived by her sister, Linda Gallagher (Richard); brothers-in law, Gary Gesaman and Maury Byers; her sister- in- law Rachel Ahlrichs Gerdes (Don), numerous nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a broad extended family of former students, and the countless students whose lives were forever harmonized by her mentorship, many friends and extended family.

Memorial services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, July 25, 2026 at St. Paul's Lutheran & Presbyterian Church. A private family burial will be held at a later date. A visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the church. Laufersweiler Palmer-Swank Funeral Home is serving the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to the discretion of the family and distributed to several charities she held close to her heart.
