Doris M. Williams, 101, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2026, surrounded by her family after a short illness.
Services will be 10:30 AM on Monday June 22, 2026, at the St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge. A time of gathering for family and friends will be from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Sunday June 21st at the Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Fort Dodge.
Doris was born on December 28, 1924, in Randall, Iowa, to Thomas and Martha Pederson, Doris lived a remarkable 101 years filled with love, resilience, and joy.
She moved with her family to Fort Dodge, Iowa, where she graduated from Fort Dodge High School. She went on to attend the Iowa Lutheran School of Nursing, beginning a meaningful career as a registered nurse. She devoted many years of compassionate care to her patients at Mercy Hospital and later at Trinity Hospital.
In 1948, she married the love of her life, Richard Williams. They shared a deep and lasting bond until his passing in 1981.
Doris was a lifelong member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, where her faith guided her life. Known for her feisty yet kind spirit, she cherished her many friendships and brought warmth and energy wherever she went.
She had a passion for travel and especially loved exploring the world with her sister, Kate. Together they enjoyed many memorable trips to Europe, Hawaii, and destinations across the United States, creating lifelong memories along the way.
In her retirement, she continued her life of service by volunteering with the Blanden Art Museum, Friendship Haven, and the Red Cross, giving generously of her time and care to her community.
She had a deep love for the Iowa Hawkeyes, her hometown of Fort Dodge, and, above all, her family. She truly enjoyed every minute of her 101 years, embracing life with enthusiasm and grace.
Doris is survived by her daughter, Nancy Williams of Edina, Minnesota; her son, Dick Williams (Julie) of Fort Dodge, Iowa; and her beloved grandson, Keaton Williams and fiancee Katie Neuzil of Ely, Iowa. She is also survived by her 103-year-old sister, Kathryn “Kate” Simonson of Dallas, Texas, along with many dear nieces and nephews.
She is now finally reunited with the love of her life, Richard, and her beloved siblings, Dr. Thomas (Geneva) Pederson and Russell (Bonnie) Pederson.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Marian Home and UnityPoint Hospice for their compassionate and excellent care. Special thanks are also given to Shannon Fleming and Joleen Hall for their friendship, love, and unwavering support in helping her remain independent in her home.
