Michael Cosgrove
Michael “Mike” Cosgrove, 76, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, passed away on May 19, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was born in Cherokee, Iowa on September 25, 1949, to James and Rose Cosgrove. The family moved to Fort Dodge when Mike was a young child, where he spent the rest of his life as a proud member of the Fort Dodge community.
Mike was a graduate of St. Edmond High School, class of 1967, and went on to earn his degree from Iowa Central Community College, and later attended Iowa State University. His education laid the foundation for a dedicated career in the distribution industry, where he worked for Mid-Continent Bottlers and Frito-Lay before retiring in 2011 after years of committed service.
On August 21, 1971, Mike married his high school sweetheart, Judy Hanrahan, and together they built a beautiful life in Fort Dodge. Mike and Judy were blessed with two children, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Mike enjoyed spending time with his family, grilling food and watching a variety of sporting events, especially his Iowa State Cyclones. In his younger years he spent his time golfing, bowling, hunting and playing cards with friends.
An avid fisherman at heart, Mike enjoyed spending time on the water, on the dock or on the riverbank. Over the years he embarked on countless fishing adventures alongside his brothers, family and friends, creating memories and stories that will be cherished and retold for generations. Mike passed on this love of the outdoors to his children and grandchildren.
Mike is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Judy Cosgrove; his son, Matthew Cosgrove (Sarah); his daughter, Lindsay Heun (Steve); his sister, Sue Cosgrove; his siblings-in-law, Karen Cosgrove, Dave (Kim) Rolfes and Pat Kluesner; five grandchildren, Leah (Jacob) Meadors, Jillian (Jack) McEvoy, Thomas Cosgrove, Braedon Heun (fiancee Maddi), and Avery Heun; one great-granddaughter, Adeline Meadors; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents James and Rose Cosgrove, brothers John and David Cosgrove and sister Linda Urelius.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, May 27, 2026, in the chapel of Laufersweiler Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Corpus Christi Cemetery. A visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be left to family discretion.
