Marlys Schoon

Marlys Schoon, 84, of Manson, died May 8, 2026, at the Good Samaritan Society.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Weishaar Funeral Chapel, Manson. Funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 14, 2026, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Palmer, with interment to follow at St. Paul Cemetery.

Marlys Fay Johnson, daughter of Adolph and Laura (Gerdes) Johnson, was born January 27, 1942, in Rockwell City. She graduated from Palmer High School in 1960. On June 2, 1962, Marlys married Ronald Lee Schoon. The couple raised their family of four children and farmed north of Manson. Marlys worked at Manson Pro Coop and retired from the Fort Dodge Messenger.

Marlys enjoyed time spent outdoors, gardening, fishing and bird watching. She enjoyed being social as she was the high school reunion coordinator, enjoyed dancing and was part of Red Hat Ladies Club. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

Marlys is survived by her children, Lori (Bill) Habben of Humboldt, Lynn (Patty) Schoon of Palmer, Lisa (Greg) Saal of Eden Prairie, MN, and Leanne (Brian) Darr of Manson; her grandchildren, Emily (David) Peterson of Fort Dodge, Erin (Keith) Arndt of Fort Dodge, Jenna (Corey) Gibson of Dakota City, Brandon (Macie) Schoon of Manson, IA, Blaire (Aaron) Walther of Denver, IA, Nick Saal of Walnut Creek, CA, Alex Saal of Eden Prairie, MN, Marissa Saal of Eden Prairie, MN, Cassie Darr (Pat Hogan) of Fort Dodge, IA, Connor Darr of Manson. Nine great grandchildren, Jason Gibson; Cohlter, Cael, & Cooper Schoon; Layne Peterson; Payton & Palmer Arndt; Lyla & Ally Walther plus one on the way; her sister Janet Hohensee of Ankeny, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband Ronald in 1991, ​and numerous extended family members.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
