Mary Elaine Pollert, the daughter of Victor and Edith (McNeal) Pollert, was born in Hepburn, IA on May 15, 1937, and graduated from Clarinda High School. On July 23, 1955, Elaine was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Donald Cassady, in San Antonio, TX. The couple lived in Iowa City while Don attended dental school at the University of Iowa. In 1963, they moved to Fort Dodge where they made their home and raised their family.

Elaine was a genuinely sweet soul- always so kind, gentle and selfless. She took great pride in her family and was always there to support them. Her grandchildren have such wonderful memories of the “Grandma Trips” she took them on each summer.

She was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she served as church secretary for a short time and volunteered on numerous committees. Elaine was an active member of the Trinity Regional Medical Center auxiliary, volunteered with the PTA at the kids’ school and was a leader for both boy scouts and girl scouts. She was a loyal member of P.E.O. Chapter IM, where she held many offices throughout the years. She enjoyed reading, bowling, playing Bridge and working in her garden. She cherished the memories made with her family at their Lake Panorama home.

Elaine is survived by her children Laura Horan of Sioux City, IA; Carol (Kirk) McNeil of Marion, IA; Doug (Jennifer) Cassady of Otsego, MN and Gail (Randy) Martin of Platte City, MO; 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; and her sister Conamara Freed of Clarinda.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Cassady, her parents, Victor and Edith Pollert, and a son-in-law, Greg Horan.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
