Gary SChuster

Gary Lee Schuster, 78, of Urbandale, Iowa, passed away on April 8, 2026, at Methodist Hospital, surrounded by family–one day after celebrating his 78th birthday. Born on April 7, 1948, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, he was the son of Edward and Evelyn Schuster. Gary grew up on a farm near Britt, Iowa, where he learned the values of hard work, responsibility, and caring for others. A graduate of Fort Dodge High School, Class of 1966, he later enlisted in the Iowa National Guard, carrying a deep sense of patriotism and civic responsibility throughout his life.

Gary spent 45 years with Dico, Inc. and its successor companies, retiring from Titan International as Director of Internal Auditing–a career that reflected his loyalty, integrity, and commitment to service. He met the love of his life, Karen Raper, in 1969, and together they shared 55 years of marriage, raising three children and welcoming six grandchildren. Family was at the center of Gary’s life, from cheering on his children at countless sporting events to creating lasting memories on summer camping trips filled with campfires, laughter, and breakfasts on the grill.

Known for his warmth, humor, and generosity, Gary made everyone feel welcome. His home and table were always open, his garden was a source of pride, and his teasing was a sure sign of affection. A lifelong encourager, Gary believed that doing your best was always enough. Gary is survived by his wife, Karen; children Christy (John Sederwall), Tracy (Brian Matlock), and Jerome (Shelly); grandchildren Eamon and Graham Matlock, Tre and Chase Sederwall, and Mackensie and Jarret Schuster; and siblings Larry (Georgie), Janene (Pat Gentile), and Steve Schuster. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Evelyn Schuster.
