Ed Heckman

Edward Harry Heckman, Jr., 93, of Humboldt, died Saturday, April 4, 2026 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. His wishes were to be cremated.

Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 24, at Oak Hill Church in Humboldt. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. at the church on Friday, until the time of service.

Surviving is his son, Mark Heckman of Humboldt; grandson, Doug (Anita) Heckman of Ames, IA, granddaughter, Lucy Swanson of Rogers, AR, and six great-grandchildren, Raeghan, Gavyn, Hayden, Paisley, Brecken and Gianna and many nieces and nephews in Oregon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, all five of his siblings and wife, Barbara (Kendall).

Edward Harry Heckman Jr was born January 14, 1933 in Friend, Nebraska. In 1951, he was united in marriage to Barbara Kendall in Fort Dodge where they made their home. He was a city mail carrier for the United States Postal Service in Fort Dodge, and in 1978, moved to Humboldt and served as Supervisor of Humboldt Post Office until he retired. In his retirement, he enjoyed driving tour buses as well as school buses for the Humboldt School District and volunteering with Oak Hill's AWANAS program. He loved having coffee with buddies, especially Saturday mornings at Humboldt Motors and playing cards daily at the VFW.
