Sylvia Cornell

Memorial visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 26, 2026, at Gunderson Funeral Chapel with graveside service at 11:00 a.m. at Graceland Cemetery.

Sylvia J. Spirek was born on September 24, 1945. She graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1964. Sylvia was a care giver all her life, working in healthcare at TRMC and the County Home. She retired from Walmart.

Sylvia married Ernest Cornell in 1983 and together they made their home in Fort Dodge. She was a wonderful cook, loved garage sales and thrifting, traveling and camping with family, reading and gardening.

Survivors include her children Cindy Nafe of Humboldt, son Rusty Cornell of San Diego, CA and Russell Eckman of Portland, Oregon; grandchildren, Autumn Brown, Damon Kruse, Shawn Nafe; and a great grandson River Casey. Sylvia is preceded in death by her parents Merle and Beulah Spirek, her husband Ernest, her children Robert Cornell, Darlene Hogan, and Rachel Zinkin.
