Diane Larson

Diane Marie Larson, 67, of Fort Dodge, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2026, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, IA. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 3, 2026, from 4:00-6:30 p.m. with a Celebration of Life at 6:30 p.m. at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services. A private family burial will be held at a later date at St. Olaf Cemetery in Fort Dodge.

Diane was born on October 23, 1958, the daughter of Leward and Lucille “Lucy” Larson. Diane grew up in Fort Dodge and graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School. She continued her education at Iowa Central Community College, where she earned her nursing degree and began a lifelong career devoted to caring for others. Diane was united in marriage to James Sullivan, and the couple made their home in Gowrie, IA, where they raised their two daughters, Stacy and Abbey. Diane worked for many years in the healthcare field, serving patients and families at several area nursing homes, Stewart Memorial Hospital in Lake City, and Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge.

Later in life Diane moved to Fort Dodge. She eventually transitioned from bedside nursing to case management and recently retired from Hines & Associates, where she worked as a case worker.

Diane found great joy in gardening, spending time outdoors, and most of all being with her family. Her most treasured role was being Nana to her four grandsons who were her whole world, and she was especially devoted to caring for her mother, Lucy Larson.

Diane is survived by her daughters, Stacy (Ben) Mader and their sons Caleb and Landon; and Abbey (Roderick) Naylor and their sons Kaalon and Traeton; her mother Lucy Larson; siblings Doug Larson, Cindy McCarthy, Russ (Tammy) Larson and Pam (Brian) Wilson along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her father Lew Larson and nephew Eric Larson.

Diane will be remembered for her compassion, her dedication to helping others, and her deep love for her family.
