Linda Mariann Porter was born on March 3, 1948. She attended Fort Dodge area schools and graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1966. On June 6, 1970, she married John Havlik in Coalville. The couple established their home in Glimore City for 45 years. Linda lived in Ames for the last 11 years. Following graduation, Linda worked at Friendship Haven. After marriage and children, she became a stay-at-home mom, who did whatever she could do to help make money for the family; walking beans, delivering newspapers, cleaning the church, and baby/house sitting for neighbors in Gilmore City.
Linda enjoyed animals, especially horses when she was younger and cats as she got older. She was an avid reader before she began to lose her eyesight. Then her passion became old TV programs, which she never tired of. She also loved country music. You knew Linda was comfortable with you if she talked your ear off, which she did to many people she would meet. Linda had a very gentle spirit and she never complained about anything; even when times were tough or something was ailing her.
Linda is survived by her sons, Bruce Havik of Waukee and Patrick (Michele) Havlik of Ames, grandchildren, Lauren Havlik and Logan Chitty, siblings, John (Sharon) Porter and Murial (Gould) Montgomery. She is preceded in death by her husband, John, parents, Lisle and Mildred (Messerly) Porter, and sister and brother-in-law, Maxine (Clair) Henry.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
