Lanny Hill

Memorial service is 10:30 AM Thursday, February 5, 2026, at St. John Lutheran Church in Pomeroy, Iowa. Pastor Bob Hayden will officiate and Military Rites will be conducted by the Marine Corps Honor Guard. Burial will be held at a later date. Visitation is 4-6 PM Wednesday, February 4th, at the CHURCH in Pomeroy. Powers Funeral Home of Pomeroy, Iowa, is handling the arrangements.

Lanny was the son of Wilma (Quam) and Leonard Hill Jr. He attended schools in Hayward, CA, graduating from Hayward High School in 1951 where he excelled in the sport of platform high diving.

Lanny served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1959-1963. On January 22, 1963, he married Joyce Jensen in Webster City, Iowa. He began Barber College in the fall of 1963, graduating in January of 1964. After completing his barber apprenticeship in Shenandoah, Iowa, he moved to Manson, Iowa in July of 1965 where he opened his own Barber Shop which he operated until 1978. He also was a registered locksmith.

After purchasing a farm near Pomeroy in 1973, he began farming and gradually gave up barbering for full-time farming. In 2001, after building a new home in Pomeroy, he retired to spend more time fishing and gardening.

Lanny was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Pomeroy and a lifetime member of the AMVETS.

Lanny is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joyce; sons, Keith (Amalia) of Tepic, Mexico, and Kelly (Laurie) of Burlington, WI, and daughter, Kristi of Clive, IA. He is also survived by grandsons, Konnor Hill and Ceasar Cortez; granddaughters, Kelsey and Joslyn Hill and Sadie and Hailey Etzel; one great-grandson, Cash Savage; one sister, Andrea Hafeli of Marion, IL, and dozens of nephews and nieces. Also, brother-in-law, Terry Jensen and sister-in-law, Dorothy Jensen.

Lanny was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Darwin.
