John W. English

“It is more a blessing to give than to receive,” Acts 20:35

John William English was called home by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at Trinity Regional Medical Center. John lived his life faithfully, quietly, and generously, giving of himself through his time, talents, and treasures to all, especially those in need.

He was born August 11, 1946, in Fort Dodge, was raised in Clare, and graduated from St. Edmond's High School. Soon after, John enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he spent the next twenty years of his life. He met and married his beloved wife, Linda L. (Nee Ott) English. The two were joined in Holy Matrimony at Sacred Heart Church on July 16, 1967, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Together, they raised three daughters, teaching and passing on to them the importance of family, faith, and service to all. After serving our country, he retired from the military, returning home, where he was employed by Fletcher Cabinets, retiring in 2005. John was a member of Holy Trinity Church. He fully believed in the “Four F's”: faith, family, friends, and fishing.

John is survived by his long-time companion, Linda Rowe of Fort Dodge; daughters Nancy (Douglas) Whelan of Red Bud, IL, Katherine (Ron) Kueker of Ellis Grove, IL, and Stephanie (Vernon “Sonny”) Kisro of Evansville, IL; eleven grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and siblings Phillip (Elaine) English of Omaha, NE, Judy Miller of Solon, IA, Martha (“Pat”) Hughes of Olathe, KS, Mary (Robert “Bob”) Cass, and Kathleen (John) Kauble, both of Coralville, IA, sister-in-law Shelly English of Omaha, NE, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He will be sorely missed by his “fur baby,” Bentley Charles.

Preceding John in death were his parents, Robert and Mary “Colleen” (Nee Bemrich) English; wife, Linda (Nee Ott) English, in 1993; siblings, Robert, Richard, Tim, and Beth English; Sara Marsh; nephew, Jeffery Marsh; and brother-in-law, Richard Miller.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Holy Trinity Church, 2501 6th Ave North Fort Dodge, with Msgr. Kevin McCoy and Father Bill Schreiber. Laufersweiler Funeral Home is serving the family.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
