Wayne Hanson

Wayne was born February 9, 1926, in Thor, Iowa, to the late John O. and Ruth (Nelson) Hanson and graduated from Thor High School in 1943.

Wayne met his future wife, Rosemary Koestner, at a slow pitch softball game in Thor, Iowa. They were married April 15, 1951, at Ullensvang Lutheran Church in Thor, Iowa. They were the parents of 3 children, Joan, Dennis and Kathy. They farmed for 37 years on their farm 5 miles north and one mile east of Duncombe. Their farm was honored as a Century Farm at the Iowa State Fair in 1994. They farmed with Rosemary’s brother Donald and Brother-in-law Bob.

Wayne is survived by his children, Joan (Gary) Lore of Nashua, Rev. Dennis (Dorothea) Hanson of Cedar Falls and Kathy (Marlin) Geisler of Gowrie; 9 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife of 66 years, Rosemary; siblings, John Hanson, Loretta Grebner and Doris Catalano; brothers-in-law, Richard Grebner, Lee Catalano, Donald Koestner and Robert Moenk; sisters-in-law, Ines Hanson, Virginia Koestner and Mavis Moenk; and niece, Diane Hanson.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 10:00 AM at New Aldaya Lifescapes Good Shepherd Chapel in Cedar Falls. Burial will be held at Colfax Township Cemetery, south of Vincent, Iowa. Visitation is one hour before services at the chapel. Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home is assisting the family.
