Rachel Eger

Memorial visitation will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 24, 2026 until the time of service at 3:00 p.m. Saturday at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel.

Rachel was born on September 6, 1959, to Russel and Jane (Holt) Thorson. She grew up in Fort Dodge, where she spent her childhood playing in the family band, and graduated from high school in 1978.

Rachel was united in marriage to Marty Eger on June 5, 1981, and together they made their home in Fort Dodge.

She spent 23 years working for Frontier and later retired from Iowa Central Community College after 18 years of dedicated service. Throughout her life, Rachel held many roles, but her greatest joy was always her family. She loved spending summers by the pool, watching her birds, doing crossword puzzles, and tending to her flowers.

She was the heart of her family–the one who held everyone together–and she will be missed beyond measure.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Marty; her daughters Valerie (Brian) Hill, Jennifer (Isaiah Thompson) Eger, and Brittany (Keegan Gerrard) Eger; her son Joshua Eger; her brother Eric (Wanda) Thorson and her sister Jody Castor. She is also lovingly remembered by her granddaughters Raegan and Madison Hill, and Freya Thompson.

Rachel was proceeded in death by her mother and father.
