Marilyn Bishop

Marilyn L. Bishop, 91, formerly of Fort Dodge, Iowa, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2026, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, surrounded by love in the home of her daughters.

Born in Fort Dodge on July 18, 1934, to Dorothy and Frank Anderson, Marilyn grew up on her parents’ farm near Clare, Iowa, where she developed the strong work ethic and faith that would guide her throughout her life. She was a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge, where she married Leo A. Bishop on November 11, 1956, and later celebrated the baptisms of their four children.

While living in Fort Dodge, Marilyn worked at First National Bank on Central Avenue. In 1971, the Bishop family moved to Denison, Iowa, where all four children graduated from high school. During those years, Marilyn worked as a bank teller at Kiron Bank.

After Leo retired from Hy‒Vee in 1995, the couple returned to Fort Dodge. Marilyn remained deeply involved with Grace Lutheran Church and treasured the close friendships she built through her church community. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life and a source of comfort, strength, and connection. Leo preceded her in death on September 19, 2016.

In 2021, Marilyn moved to Oklahoma to be near her two daughters, two granddaughters, grandson‒in‒law, and great‒grandson, cherishing the time she was able to spend with family.

Marilyn is survived by her children: David (Lori) Bishop of Monticello, Minnesota; Sharon Bishop of Muskogee, Oklahoma; Karen Moore of Muskogee, Oklahoma; and Dan Bishop (Angie Packer) of Germantown, Wisconsin. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, twenty great‒grandchildren, and her sister, Joyce Anderson of Deming, New Mexico.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leo; and her siblings, Doris Anderson Ostobee, LeRoy Anderson, Robert Anderson, and Donald Anderson.

A memorial service honoring Marilyn’s life will be held in mid-May at Grace Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge. Burial will take place at North Lawn Cemetery, where she will be reunited with her beloved husband of 69 years.
