Kathleen Sherman

Kathleen A. Sherman, 92, of Fort Dodge passed away Sunday, January 4, 2026, at Windsor Manor in Webster City.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM at Holy Trinity Church on Monday January 12th, 2026. A visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the church with a rosary beginning at 10:30. Burial will follow in Corpus Christi Cemetery.

Kathleen is survived by her children, Mark (Mary) Sherman of Fort Dodge and Mary Young of Williamsburg; grandchildren, Kristine Sherman of Altoona, Anna (David) Miller of Churdan, Sarah Sherman of Fort Dodge, Luke (Taryn) Sherman of Fort Dodge, Alayna Young of Iowa City, Erin Young of Williamsburg, Alysha ( Colton) Young of Williamsburg and Maria (Eliot) Barker of Des Moines; 6 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Patricia Nilles.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brothers, Robert Nilles and Bernard Nilles, sister-in-law, Monica Nilles, and son-in-law, Jeff Young.

Kathleen Ann Sherman was born March 21, 1933, to William and Helen (McPhiilips) Nilles in Webster City, Iowa where she was raised, educated, and later graduated from Lincoln High School in 1950. She was united in marriage to Cornelius “Carney” Sherman at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Webster City on August 7, 1954. Early in their marriage he was enlisted in the US Navy and the family moved to California. Upon their return to Iowa, the couple farmed near Fort Dodge until they retired in 2010 and moved into town. In addition to helping on the farm, Kathleen had served as an organist over the years at St. Thomas Aquinas and then later Holy Rosary Catholic Church. She had also been employed as a school secretary in both the Webster City and Fort Dodge Community School Districts. She and her husband were members of the Fort Dodge Dance Club. Kathleen was a parishioner of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, a lifetime member of the Catholic Daughters of America, and a Rosarian at Holy Rosary.
