Donni Mitchell
Donni M. Mitchell, 90, of Fort Dodge, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away peacefully, after valiantly fighting several health problems, on Thursday January 8, 2026, at the Marian Home surrounded by members of her family. It was just 5 days following her 90th birthday.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday January 31st at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with a visitation 1 hour prior to the service. Laufersweiler Funeral Home is serving the family.
Donni is survived by her husband, Larry, children, Lauri (Brian) Mundie of Fort Dodge, Klete (Ginger) Geren of Ankeny, Lincoln Geren of Ankeny, 9 grandchildren Joseff, Jondahl, Kristin (Shane), Matthew (Melanie), Jacob, Thomas, William, Alexander and Landon, great grandchildren Ella, Tate, Max, Paisley, Rhett, Graham, and Norah, siblings, John (Les) Malloy of Sun City, FL, and Coralie Tracey of Coalville, IA.
Donni is preceded in death by her parents, John and Edna (Smerdon) Malloy, sisters Nancy Malloy, Beth Kinseth, and grandchildren, Jared and Jordan Mundie.
Donni Marguerite Malloy was born on January 3, 1936, to John and Edna Malloy in Webster City, IA. She was raised and educated in Fort Dodge, graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High as Valedictorian of her class in 1954. For many years she worked at her family-owned business, Malloy Dry Cleaners, in Fort Dodge. On August 3,1956, she married John Geren and the couple established their home in Fort Dodge. The couple had 3 children, Lauri, Klete, and Lincoln. They later divorced.
Donni was a radio advertisement representative for several years and became a realtor in 1987 and later a broker licensed in Iowa. She was a professional quality artist receiving many commissions on her paintings. Donni also served on a number of boards of local charities including Crimestoppers, Toastmasters and the Women's Shelter. On February 14, 1997, she was united in marriage to Larry Mitchell. In their nearly 29 years together, the couple restored their beautiful, historic home in the Oak Hills District. Spending time with her children and family meant everything to Donni. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
The family is so grateful for the tender and compassionate care she received at the Marian Home, the Unity Point Trinity Medical Center and the Unity Point Home Healthcare.
