Marie Nesheim

Marie Ann Nesheim was born on July 30, 1946, in Eagle Grove, Iowa, the daughter of Ben and Doris (Krause) Schmits. She was raised and educated in the Renwick area, graduating from Boone Valley Community School “Class of 1964” and then attended Eagle Grove Junior College.
On June 6, 1965, Marie was united in marriage with Fred Nesheim at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Renwick. They lived near Omaha for about six months while Fred served in the United States Air Force until the sudden death of his father, and they moved back to Goldfield so Fred could take over the farming.
Marie was a dedicated member of Lake Lutheran Church of rural Goldfield and Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran Church. She served as the pianist for Lake Lutheran for over two decades and frequently played at United Presbyterian Church of Goldfield for Sunday Services and Bible School in the summer. Additionally, Marie provided musical accompaniment for residents of Rotary Senior Living on Sunday evenings and contributed her talents for several funeral services.
She was employed for several years by Stevenson Insurance Services in Goldfield.
Marie is widely recognized for her exceptional skill in pickling beets, having canned over 200 jars in one year. She was also an enthusiastic supporter of her grandsons, regularly attending their athletic and musical events.
Marie passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at the age of 79 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Marilyn Haskins and brothers-in-law, Gary Lund and Dr. Dan “Doc” Nesheim.
Marie is survived by her husband of sixty years, Fred Nesheim of Goldfield; son, Paul Nesheim (Deb) of Goldfield; daughter, Michelle Nesheim of Urbandale; four grandsons, Dalton Nesheim of West Des Moines, Carson Nesheim of Goldfield, Griffin Buhr of Urbandale and Gannon Buhr of Urbandale; brother-in-law, Bob Haskins of Palatine, IL and sisters-in-law, Caroline Lund of Clarion, Kathy Hansel (Bruce) of Badger and Nancy Nesheim of Mallard.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 14, 1:00 pm at Evangelical Lutheran Church with visitation from 11:30 to 1:00 pm. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
