Lola Dillon

Lola D. Johnson Sterba Dillon was born November 1, 1935, in Antelope County, Nebraska, and passed away on October 18, 2025, in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at Grace Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge with Pastor Dan Kahl officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery in Fort Dodge.

Lola was the daughter of Raymond and Myrtle Johnson. She was baptized and confirmed in Zion Lutheran Church in Creighton, Nebraska. She graduated from Creighton High School and Luther School of Nursing in Sioux City, Iowa, in September of 1958.

She was called by the Lutheran Church in America to serve for two years as assistant matron of the Queen Louise children’s home in St. Croix US Virgin Islands. In 1961, she went to Liberia, West Africa, to visit her sister and brother-in-law, Arlene and Reverend Joe Wold. During that year, she served as a school nurse and house mother for a children’s boarding school.

From 1962 to 1970, she served in the field of Health Services on St. Croix.

In 1965, Lola married Steve Sterba and gave birth to a son Stephen in 1967.

In 1970, she returned to the states and worked in the healthcare field in Iowa, Missouri, and Florida until retiring in 1997.

Lola was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Myrtle Johnson; husband, Kenneth Dillon; son, Stephen Sterba; brother, Kenneth Johnson; stepson Terry Dillon; and stepdaughters Patty Dillon and Sue Kelly (Dillon).

Survivors include sister Arlene, and her husband Joseph Wold; sister-in-law, Charlene Johnson; stepchildren, Barb and Dan McMahon; great-grandchildren, Heather and Angela Kelly, Lisa Hockemeier (Anderson) and Brent Anderson, Chris Dillon and Eric Dillon, and Melody Roberts (Dillon).
