Carol Russell

Memorial visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. with service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Gunderson Funeral Chapel.

Carol Ann Mercer, daughter of Frances (Roth) and Aughtwell M. Mercer, was born in Des Moines, Iowa. She was raised by her parental grandparents after her mother died. Carol graduated from Lincoln High School. On July 9, 1960, Carol married Raymond Russell, and they made their home and raised their family in Fort Dodge.

She was employed with Land O’ Lakes and worked in the microfilm department. Carol was a long-time member of First Baptist Church, a woman of strong faith. She was known to be both stubborn and sassy and she doted on her grandchildren.

Survivors include her children Cathy Conley- Messerly (Keith) of Moorland, Becky DeGeus (Jeff) of Britt and Mike Russell of Fort Dodge, her grandchildren Jessica Crawford (James), Chris Conley, Sarah Hildebrand (Joe Rue) and Cody Ray Chapman, 4 great grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters Joyce Pizark (Richard) of Centerville, and Patty Bown (Denny) of Des Moines. She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond in 1997, her parents and grandparents.
