Mike Waynar
Michael Kim Waynar, 74, of Fort Dodge, died September 29, 2025, at Windsor Manor of Webster City.
Visitation will be held after 4:00 p.m. Thursday, October 2, 2025, followed by the funeral service at 6:00 p.m. at Gunderson Funeral Chapel.
Mike Waynar, son of Michael and Janis (Reed) Waynar, was born September 29, 1951, in Toledo, OH. He graduated from Burke High School. While earning his BA degree from UNO, he met his future wife Ann. Mike earned his MSW from University of Nebraska. On July 22, 1977, Mike married Ann Kennison at Holy Name Church and the couple made their home in Muncie, IN, where they started their family. The family moved from Muncie, IN, to Fort Dodge in 1990. He was employed as a social worker for AEA, a psychologist for the Fort Dodge Correctional Facility and the VA, retiring in 2018.
Mike was a member of Holy Trinity Parish and often volunteered to take communion to the homebound. Mike was instrumental in establishing the F.D. Soccer Association, enjoyed playing and coaching youth soccer. He liked working out and running, completing 2 marathons. Mike loved gardening, fishing, traveling with family, and riding his Harley Davidson. Mike had a special place in his heart for his grandkids and he spoiled all of his family rescue dogs and was a supporter of Almost Home Humane Society.
Survivors include his wife Ann of Fort Dodge, his children Katrina (Brett) Rounkles of Kansas City, Ben (Katie) Waynar of Fort Dodge, and Maria Waynar of West Des Moines, his grandchildren Landon and Nolan Waynar and Georgia Rounkles, and his sister Cheri Mundt. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers-in-law Larry Mundt and John Kennison.
