Marilyn Peterson
Marilyn LaVonne Peterson, age 95, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, passed away on July 31, 2025, in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. A private memorial service will be held at Gunderson’s Funeral Home Chapel for the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Service.
Marilyn was born in Otho, Iowa on October 21, 2029. She graduated from Fort Dodge High School. After graduation she worked for Underwriters Adjustment in Fort Dodge. She was united in marriage to Donald C. Peterson on May 7, 1950. They moved to Fort Dodge in 1965, and she lived there until October 1999.
Marilyn was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was a member of PEO. She enjoyed her family, her many bridge clubs, golfing, sewing, and her friends.
Marilyn moved to Lee’s Summit, Missouri in October 1999 to be closer to family. She lived at John Knox Retirement Apartments until April of 2025 and then moved to John Knox Care Center.
Marilyn is survived by her 3 children: Bruce Peterson, Overland Park, Kansas, Karen Carlson (Rick), Lee’s Summit, Missouri and Kent Peterson, Bixby, Oklahoma. She had 7 grandchildren: Kyle Carlson, Erik Peterson (Erin), Lacy Hill (Logan), Ryan Peterson (Leilani), Evan Peterson, Erin Peterson and Emry Peterson, and 2 great grandchildren: Dax and Harper Peterson. Also, her sister-in-law, Donna Lee Peterson of Chicago, IL and many nieces and nephews.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Donald in 2007, her parents, Harold & Velva (Jordison) Hudson, her sister & brother-in-law, Vera & Louis Heide, and daughter-in-law Elise (Kent) Peterson.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be left to the First United Methodist Church of Fort Dodge.
