Garrett Deckert

Garrett A. Deckert, 88, of Fort Dodge passed away Monday, August 11, 2025 at the Marian Home.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 16th at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of the Laufersweiler Funeral Home. Burial will follow in North Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday from 11:30 to 1:00 PM at the funeral home.

Garrett is survived by his wife Carol Deckert of Fort Dodge, sons Tom Deckert of Australia and Mike (Becky) Deckert of Edgewood, WA, step children Courtney Wood of Hampton, NY and Matt Wood of Davenport, grandchildren Lydia and Tobias Wood and Sam and Adia Deckert, sister Mauretta Madison of Madison, WI.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Garrett and Zilpha (Blondie) Deckert and four sisters.

Garrett August Deckert was born May 22, 1937 in Richland Center, WI. He was raised and educated there and graduated from Viola High School. He received his degree in Geology and Earth Science from University of Wisconsin- LaCrosse. Garrett was a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Richland for 36 years, retiring in 2002. He was a Charter Member of Faculty at UW Richland. On May 23, 1992, he was united in marriage to Carol Wood. Garett was a past member of the Richland Center’s First Presbyterian Church, He enjoyed restoring homes, skiing, canoeing, and golfing; even hitting a hole in one at Gitmo Bay!
