Larry St. John
Larry St. John, 86, of Fort Dodge, passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at his home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating. Burial will follow in Corpus Christi Cemetery with military rites provided by the US Marine Corps and VFW Post 1856. There will be a visitation on Friday, August 1, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Laufersweiler Funeral Home.
Larry is survived by his wife of 66 years, Louise; children, Lawrence (Wendy) St. John, Kimberly (David) Scott, Lynette (Douglas) Davis, Deborah (David) Dzunda, Steven (Karla) St. John, Cynthia (fiance Joseph Tucker) St. John, Philip (Debra) St. John, Michael (Diana) St. John; 17 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Dick (Norma) St. John, Dennis (Shirley) St. John, Marilyn (Lloyd) Crum, Marlene (Steve) McGuire, and Willy (Claudia) St. John.
Larry is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Jennifer Scott; parents, Wilfred and Ruth (Minard) St. John; brother, Roger St. John; sister Lola Mae St. John; and in-laws, Ferman and Imelda (Foertsch) Heinen, Jim Heinen, and Larry Heinen.
Larry was born on April 10, 1939, in Algona, Iowa. He was raised and educated in Algona, graduating from Algona High School in 1958. On February 7, 1959, he was united in marriage to Louise Heinen at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Algona. The couple lived in 29 Palms, California, while Larry served in the Marine Corp from 1958-1961. In 1961, the couple moved back to Iowa living in Fort Dodge, Moorland, Eagle Grove and Waterloo. Larry worked for Mead Containers in Fort Dodge, Waterloo and Phoenix, Arizona, locations until 1990. The couple then moved to La Porte, Indiana, where he worked for Smurfit-Stone Corp. until retiring in 2003. In 2004, the couple moved to Huxley, Iowa, and then returned to Fort Dodge in 2019. Larry is a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and a past member of St. Malachy's Catholic Church in Madrid, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Brushy Creek Area Honor Flight and Unity Point Hospice.
