Janice F. Johnson

Janice Fay Johnson, 86, of Fort Dodge passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, May 31, 2025.

Janice Fay was born April 1, 1939, to Floyd and Elva (Huckins) Johnson in Ottawa, Illinois. She was raised on the family farm in Marseilles, Illinois. She graduated from Ottawa Township High School in 1957.

She had a lengthy career in retail to include managerial positions at both Casey's General Store and True Value in Eldridge, Iowa. After retiring from True Value, Janice moved to the Fort Dodge area. While living in Fort Dodge, Jan decided to come out of retirement and work in the fabric department of Hobby Lobby. While working at Hobby Lobby, she met many wonderful people and became a well-known and respected seamstress for families in the area.

Jan loved to sew for her family which included many one-of-a-kind holiday gifts. Her most valued creation was a wedding dress for her oldest daughter, Tina.

Jan was also involved in many groups in her church, Grace Lutheran. She helped with the Lutheran World Relief Project, especially gathering baby and personal care kits. Jan loved to make people laugh and was known for her sense of humor and welcoming nature. She loved to spend time with her family laughing and reminiscing about the “good ol' days”. Her family was her most prized possession.

Jan is survived by her children Tina Riesselman of Citrus Springs, FL, Kimberly (Chris) Carroll Inverness, FL, Timothy (Barb) Read of Ames, and Stacey Bochart of Fort Dodge. She is also leaving nine grandchildren Kristina Murray (Jeremy Medeiros), Michael Carroll, Allison Carroll, Alex Read, Lucy Read, Albany Read, Edison Read, Max Lara, and Spencer Lara, two great-grandchildren Jackson and Jameson Medeiros, sisters Donna Mullin of LaBelle, FL, Dorothy Peek od Kokomo, IN, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at Grace Lutheran Church. A visitation will be one hour prior at the church. Laufersweiler Funeral Home is serving the family.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
