James “Jim” Gill

James “Jim” Gill, 77, of Fort Dodge, passed away on Friday, May 30, 2025, at UnityPoint Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM on Friday, June 6, 2025, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the VFW Post #1856 and the Iowa Army National Guard. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday with a vigil to follow. The Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services are in charge of arrangements.
James Arthur Gill, the son of Floyd and Viola (Weideman) Gill, was born May 19, 1948, in Chicago, Illinois. Jim attended Fort Dodge Catholic Schools, graduating from St. Edmond’s High School in 1966. He enlisted into the United States Army in February of 1968 and served during the Vietnam war until his discharge in August 1971. After serving in the army Jim attended Buena Vista University graduating with a BA Degree in 1980.
On April 26, 1991, Jim was united in marriage to Susan Rumbaugh in Fort Dodge. After their marriage, the couple made Fort Dodge their home.
Jim served on the Fort Dodge City Council for 9 years. He also served as the Webster County Supervisor for 4 years. Jim served on various boards for the City of Fort Dodge and Webster County. He was also a 33-year member of the Fort Dodge Noon Lions Club and received their Melvin Jones award for humanitarian services.
He is survived by his wife, Susan; daughters Alicia Gill, Angela Gill, Amanda Blanchard; stepson Jonathan Hill; two grandchildren, Azalya Hill and Tucker Gill. Jim is also survived by his three siblings, John (Julie) Gill, Jerilee (TJ Johnsrud) Mace and Jeanne (Jon) Thill. Jim is preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials may be left to the Fort Dodge Noon Lions Kidsight Program or St. Edmond Catholic School.
