Bette Smith

Bette A. Smith, 100, of Fort Dodge, died June 13, 2025, at the Simpson Center of Friendship Haven.
Memorial visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with interment to be held in Corpus Christi Cemetery.
Bette A. Smith, daughter of Albert and Frieda (Bischoff) Smith, was born on July 24, 1924, in Wheeling, West Virginia. She graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy in 1942. On November 16, 1946, Bette married Jay Smith. The couple lived in West Virginia until moving to Fort Dodge in 1965. Bette was a member of Corpus Christi Church, Ladies Guild, Major Williams Chapter of Questors, a hospital volunteer for 23 years, member of Trinity Auxiliary and served as a board member for the Fort Museum. Bette led an aquacise class at the YMCA for many years. Since 1992, she has made her home at Friendship Haven and loved it there.
Survivors include her sons Brad (Debbie) Smith of Carrollton, TX and Scott (MaryAnn) Smith of Eagle Grove, 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Preceding her in death was her husband L. Jay Smith and her daughter Pamela Nesbit, her sister Dorothy Vorhees and her parents.
