Timothy Casady

Timothy Allen Casady, 56, senior date engineer, passed away peacefully at home in Chicago's South Loop on May 20, 2025.

Born in Iowa City, Tim graduated from St. Edmond High School, Fort Dodge IA. Earned his B.A. in English from Briar Cliff College in Sioux City, and his M.A. in English from Iowa State.

His career began as a technical writer documenting software, transitioned into software quality control and eventually learning complex database software, moving into database engineering. He was valued by bosses and coworkers for his problem solving skills, unique insights and sharp intelligence. He continued to work at Charles Schwab through his illness.

It was early in 1994 that chance brought Tim and Hillary together. They were both on a long since defunct ISCA (computer bulletin board system) when Tim stumbled across Hillary's subject line “Follow your weird.” Hillary was “just” about to log off when she saw his reply; “the problem with people following their weird is that they usually end up going in circles.” Thus began a conversation that lasted 30 years.

A few weeks after their exchange, Tim crossed two states to meet this library science student. She knew the moment she saw him that she would marry him. They were engaged by June of that year and married on December 30, 1994. The couple lived in Oak Park, Berwyn, and Chicago.

A long-distance runner, Tim completed three Chicago marathons, two Chicago triathlons, and deeply appreciated his South Loop Runners group. He was passionate about volunteering with Achilles International, helping disabled athletes reach their athletic goals. Tim was especially close to his friend Paul who was blind. With Tim's help and encouragement, Paul was able to share Tim's love of running.

Tim also loved the arts. He and Hillary were frequent visitors of the many Chicago area museums. Tim especially looked forward to his trips to the Art Institute of Chicago with his mother, which was always a part of her visits.

Devoted and loving husband of thirty years to Hillary Ann White, beloved son of Linda Rene Riesenberg, along with Linda's late husband Joe Riesenberg: dear brother-in-law of Aimee and Roger Mortemore, Megan and Mike Miltz, and Molly and Brian Mooney; uncle to Adam, Caleb, Oskar, Katie, Blaney and Maggie.

Tim is also survived by his much beloved cat, Cleodore. He was always her favorite person.

It was Tim's wishes to donate his body to science. A celebration of Tim's life is being planned for later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Achilles International: https://www.achillesinternational.org/give
