Richard “Dick” Tighe

Richard Rohan (Dick) Tighe, 94, of Webster City, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, April 29th, 2025, at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge after an extended illness. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Webster City from 4:00-6:00 PM with Rosary and Scripture service at 6:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. The family has chosen Boman Funeral Home (www.bomanfh.com) to care for their needs.

Dick was born on October 25, 1930, in Omaha, Nebraska and grew up in Jackson and Homer, Nebraska. He graduated from Homer Community high school in 1948 and then went on to attend college at Wayne State College in Wayne, NE for 3 semesters before transferring to the University of Notre Dame where he graduated with a BS in Physical Education and a minor in History. He then went on to receive an MA degree in Education and History from Niagara University and continued ongoing education studies at Iowa State. He was united in marriage to his first wife Mary Margaret (Margot) Daly on April 27, 1953, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Sioux City. Dick married his second wife Wyn Ann (Allen) at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove on December 13, 2014, after Margot's passing in 2012.

After being drafted into the Army and spending two years at Fort Leonard Wood, MO, Dick made his home in the following communities: Hamilton, Ontario Canada, Fort Dodge, IA, Carroll, IA and he lived in Webster City, IA since 1967. He built a career teaching American History and coaching for over 60 years, shaping and impacting thousands of young adult lives! The legacy he left though is his high school football coaching career; he was a Hall of Fame coach with a record of 432 wins and 63 losses and is the 2nd-winningest coach in Iowa High School Football History.

Dick is survived by his second wife Wyn Ann of 10 years, children, Merydith (John) Thomas of Camanche, IA; Paula (Richard) Eddy of Madison, WI; Constance (Robert) Humble of Estherville, IA; Richard (Leslie) Tighe of Knoxville, TN; James (Sherry) Tighe of Spencer, IA; Margaret (Marc) Shonka of Des Moines, IA and stepson Don (Paula) Allen of Eldora and step daughter-in-law Carol Allen of Clarion; 40 grandchildren and 47 great grandchildren as well as one sister-in-law, Colleen of Homer, NE.

Dick was preceded in death by his infant son Terrence Joseph, his parents Paul and Julia Tighe, brothers, John, Louis, Paul, Mark and Robert Tighe and sisters Mary and Patricia Dorcey and Ramona Kovensky as well as two infant grandchildren and stepsons Christopher, Tyler and Raymond Allen and stepdaughter Wynde Allen.
