Garland “Corky” Ball

Garland L. “Corky” Ball, 75, of Moorland, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2025, at his home in Moorland.

The family will greet friends Thursday, May 29, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Military honors will be presented by V.F.W. Post No. 1856.

Corky is survived by his daughters, Tracey Ball and Jeri (Mike) Knutson; his grandchildren, Sam (Dustin) Roosa, Nelson (Rebecca) Ball, Mariah (Martin) Schuh, Maci (Brandan) Schoenfeld, and Madie (Keaton) Eastwood; his great-grandchildren, Dawson, Emmarie, Baylor, and Hank; along with his siblings, Howard Ball, Dianne Morgan, Joanne Rundlett, and Brian Ball. He was preceded in death by his wife Tobi, his parents, his great-granddaughter Ellie, and his faithful companion Sammy-dog.

Garland Lee “Corky” Ball, the son of Harold and Lois (Fiala) Ball, was born January 3, 1950, in Fort Dodge. He graduated from Prairie High School in 1969. On August 11, 1969, Corky was united in marriage to Alice “Tobi” Eastman. Corky served in the United States Navy in Virginia from 1969 to 1973. Following his discharge, Corky returned to Moorland where he has since lived. Corky was employed as a mechanic and maintenance man for the Fort Dodge Community School District for more than 30 years.

Corky was a lifelong avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing with his family and friends and thoroughly enjoyed trips with his brothers. He enjoyed his lake home on Spirit Lake for more than 30 years and his years spent at his winter home in Harlingen, Texas. He loved to play as much golf as possible. Corky had a very competitive spirit in life whether it was playing cards, golfing or catching fish. He took pride in the appearance of his yard. He treasured sharing a cold beer with his friends, planning his future fishing trips, and especially time with his family.
