Fred Schoenfisch

Frederick Schoenfisch, 88, of Fort Dodge, died December 27, 2024, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home.

Visitation is from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 10, at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services. A service honoring Frederick's life will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church with the Rev. Jerry Raether officiating and eulogy by Pastor Steven Cahill. Interment will follow in St. Paul's Cemetery, North Lawn.

Frederick is survived by his daughter Cythnia Schoenfisch, Fort Dodge; his beloved dog Missy, 3 granddaughters, 11 great grandchildren; and his siblings, Esther Ayala, Lillian Norbert, Ernest Schoenfisch Sr. and Vivian Ludwig.

He was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn, son Jim Schoenfisch, his parents, and siblings Ruth Toftee, Dora Cahill, Arthur Schoenfisch and Ted Schoenfisch.

Frederick Herman Schoenfisch, the son of Karl and Helen (Fitzner) Schoenfisch, was born in Webster County. He graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High. Fred started working various jobs at a young age to support his family, due to the early death of his father. Fred served in the U.S. Army from 1956 – 1964, much of that time was spent in various parts of Europe. On August 17, 1963, Fred united in marriage to Carolyn Armstrong in Elk Point, South Dakota. He was employed with Prudential Life Insurance Co., Ball Beck, Sears and Crouse Cartage Co. Along with his wife Carolyn, they cleaned at Prince of Peace Church. He was an active member of the Prince of Peace Church and held numerous offices and sang in the choir. Following his retirement at the age of 58, Fred and Carolyn enjoyed traveling. An avid outdoorsman, Fred loved fishing and hunting. He loved his cabin in Ontario, Canada, where he would take a lot of family and friends, and it was always a guaranteed good time. Fred will be remembered as a loving father, gracious grandfather, a man of deep integrity and faith. He will be missed by all the people whose lives he touched.
