Walter Murray

Walter Delbert Murray passed away peacefully in Lafayette, Colorado on December 5, 2024. He was born on January 18 1935, in Lehigh, Iowa to Glen Eugene Sr. and Hazel McClelland Murray. He was raised on a farm with his 7 siblings. He attended Lehigh High School. After high school he served in the Navy from 1956 to 1962 as an Engine Fireman and was deployed to Afghanistan. Once out of the Navy, he spent many years farming in Duncombe, Iowa. He also helped at the Duncombe Senior Apartments as a handyman. He loved gardening, hunting and fishing. He was an active member in the American Legion and joined the Brushy Creek Honor Flight to Washington DC in May of 2021. He is preceded in death by his parents; ex-wife Beverly Runyon Axford; wife Karen Martin Murray, son Michael Murray, and siblings Roseta Roberta Murray Tuel, Herbert James “Pat” Murray, William Arnold “Bill’ Murray, Francis Lloyd “Foncie” Murray, Glen Eugene Murray Jr., Larry Ray Murray and Jerry Murray. He is survived by his 3 daughters; Julie Bissell (husband Steve), Jackie Bishop (husband David), Kathy Klein (husband Raymond); grandchildren Justin (wife Nakia), John, Jacob (wife Rebekah), Sabrina, Lance (wife Katrina), Jessica (husband Jakeb), Michael (wife Rylie); great grandchildren Lylah and Andrea Bishop.

A memorial service will be held at a date to be determined sometime in the summer of 2025 at Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Fort Dodge Iowa. A graveside service will be held at the Washington Township Cemetery in Duncombe, Iowa. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Exceptional Opportunities of Burt Iowa.
