Irene Porter
Irene Porter, 96, of Fort Dodge, died Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at the Marian Home in Fort Dodge. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 PM on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating. Interment will be in Corpus Christi Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon to until the time of service on Saturday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. The Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.
Irene M. Fiala, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Rebro) Fiala, was born February 4, 1928, in Fort Dodge. She was a proud graduate of the FDSH Class of 1945. Irene was united in marriage to Robert “Glen” Porter on December 10, 1947. Over the years she was employed by the McTigue Insurance Company, Iowa Electrical Supply and retired from the City of Fort Dodge serving as the executive secretary for the Planning and Inspection Department.
Irene served as past president of Highland Park, City Council, PTA of Fort Dodge, IAAP, D.O.E.S. (Women’s Elks Club) and Red Hat Society, CDA (Catholic Daughters of the Americas) and was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church until it closed and became Holy Trinity Parish.
Those who cherish her memory are her children; Marjorie (Frank) Helsell of Cedar Rapids, Jane (Ron) Johanson of Thor, Julie (Jerry) Lunn of Twin Lakes, David (Carla) Porter of Berwick and Dean (Sara) Porter of West Chester, OH; her seven grandchildren, Matt Dencklau, Mitch Dencklau, Mitch Lunn, Bryan Porter, Melissa Mack, Tricia Newcomb and Jessica Vonsak; 16 great grandchildren, Rylan Kingery, Bodin Dencklau, Porter Dencklau, Ty Mack, Cooper Mack, Kinsey Mack, Cambree Lunn, McKade Lunn, Wesley Vonsak, Drew Vonsak, Sam Vonsak, Grace Porter, Samantha “Sam” Eltjets, Tate Eltjets, Tripp Porter, and Cruze Porter.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Glen in 2008, her granddaughter Katie Lunn, and a great grandson Luke Mack.
