Dale Johnson
Dale B. Johnson, 74, of Fort Dodge, died Sunday, November 3, 2024, at Van Diest Medical Center in Webster City.
A celebration of Dale’s life will be Wednesday, November 13, at 11:00 a.m. at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Another celebration of Dale’s life will be planned for a later date in Anamosa.
Dale is survived by Julie Nail, Fort Dodge; his bonus daughter Sara Nail Dietz and her family, Zacary, Nickolas, and Henry; two brothers, Robert and John; a nephew Matt (Deb); a niece-in-law Sally; and nephews and nieces, Mark, Michael, Kelly, and Courtney. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Milton and Richard, and one nephew Kurt.
Dale Bruce Johnson, the son of Martin Holden and Velma Carol (Opheim) Johnson, was born August 18, 1950, in Algona. He lived in Bode and Gilmore City before moving to Fort Dodge. He graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1968. Dale attended Iowa Central for two years, graduated from University of Northern Iowa, and later received his master’s degree from the University of Iowa. Dale taught at St. Matthew’s School in Clare for two years, and then taught middle school math and was a coach in Anamosa. During his retirement, he worked at the American Legion at Springville.
Dale enjoyed fishing, golfing, woodworking and was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Green Bay Packers and member of Ducks Unlimited. He enjoyed traveling with Julie and watching Nickolas and Henry when they played sports. As a final gift, Dale provided the generous gift of sight as a donation, to assist two recipients.
