Donald Merk
Donald A. Merk, 80, of Plattsmouth, NE, formerly of Manson, IA, died September 12, 2024, at his home.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at the Larson-Weishaar Funeral Home in Manson. Private graveside services and military honors will be held Thursday, September 19, 2024, at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa.
Donald Allen Merk, son of Arthur and Mary Merk, was born May 30, 1944, in Manson, Iowa. He graduated from Manson High School in 1962. From 1964-1968, during Vietnam, Don served in the United States Air Force. Don was united in marriage to Diane Lyerly in 1971 and the couple made their home and raised their family in Manson. Don was employed with the U.S. Parcel Service, retiring in 1999, after 30 years of service. Golfing, camping with family and spending winters in Florida were his favorite times in life.
Survivors include his wife Diane, daughters Darci (Monty) Poland of Plattsmouth, NE, Danelle Merk of Davie, FL, and Darah Merk of Chicago, IL, his twin brother Darrel of Charlotte, NC, and brother Larry of Irvington, Iowa, along with several nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Rose Marie and grandson Carson J. Poland.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
