Kenneth Sjogren

Kenneth A. Sjogren, 77, of Otho, died Sunday, August 11, 2024, at UnityPoint Health Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Kenneth Allen Sjogren, the son of Clarence “Ole” and Ruth (Sutton) Sjogren, was born November 28, 1946, in Nebraska City, Nebraska. He graduated from high school in 1965. In 1966, Kenneth was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in field artillery operations in Vietnam. Following his discharge, Kenneth worked at a cement plant and later became an inspector for the United States Mine Safety and Health Administration. Kenneth moved to Fort Dodge in 1989 where he worked as a federal mine inspector for more than eight years before retiring. On April 7, 1990, Kenneth was united in marriage to his wife Deborah. For a time, Kenneth and Deborah lived in Arkansas where they made ceramics and operated a flea market. Kenneth was an avid fisherman, fishing in many tournaments over the years, tying fishing jigs and taking many family fishing vacations.

Kenneth is survived by his children, Greg (Judy) Sjogren, Tim Sjogren (Lynnette), and Allen (Daniella) Sjogren; his stepchildren, Chad (Shelly) Johnson, and Niki Edgerton; 13 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Tommy (Lois) Sjogren and Sharlene Sjogren. He was preceded in death by his wife Deborah and his parents.

A service honoring Kenneth’s life, for his family and close friends, is planned for Friday, August 16, at 10:30 a.m. at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by V.F.W. Post No. 1856 and the Iowa Army National Guard. The visitation is from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Memorials may be directed to the discretion of the family.
