Diann Kathleen Medland

Diann Kathleen (Sonnicksen) Medland passed into heaven June 1, 2024 in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 73 years.

She was born September 16, 1950, to Carl and Bernice Sonnicksen and grew up on the family farm north of Lehigh. She graduated from Central Webster High School in 1968.

She is survived by her by brother, Ralph Sonnicksen (Cathy) of Fort Dodge, her sister Janet Ewing (Jerry) of Apple Valley, Minnesota, two daughters Trisha Davis (Tim) and Jennifer Johnston of Des Moines, twin grandchildren Isabel and Xavier Davis, plus nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Diann lived and worked in Fort Dodge, Des Moines, Atlanta, Georgia, and Phoenix, Arizona. Following the death of her husband, Larry Medland in Arizona in 2012, she returned to Des Moines to be closer to family. In her retirement she enjoyed sewing many projects for her senior living neighbors. She enjoyed singing, keeping her apartment organized and shopping the thrift stores with her friend and driver as her needs changed. Multiple health issues continued to increase over the last two years necessitating her move to the Urbandale Health Center in January of 2024.

She was thankful for her Bible, for many prayers and looked forward to reuniting with her parents and husband in heaven. She chose to donate her body Des Moines University for medical research and her brain to the Harvard Brain Science Initiative with sincere hope that knowledge or even a cure can be gained for many who suffer.

A service of remembrance may be scheduled at a future time.
