David Friesth

David Lars Friesth, 84, of Tempe, Arizona, passed away peacefully in his sleep, on Friday, June 14, 2024. Funeral services will be held, Saturday, July 13th, at 11:00, at Desert Cross Lutheran Church, in Tempe, Arizona. Funeral services will be streamed live on Desert Cross’s YouTube site.

David was born on the family farm in Badger, Iowa, on February 2, 1940, to Elmer and Nellie (McFarland) Friesth. David graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1958. He was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Glenda (Rojohn) on October 15th, 1960. They were married for 63 years.

David was a professionally trained hairstylist and worked for several years in Fort Dodge, first at the Wahkonsa Barber Shop downtown, which he eventually owned. In 1979, David bought and renovated a home in Fort Dodge, and opened: The Head of David. After moving to Arizona in 1994, David worked at the Ocotillo Barbershop in Sun Lakes. David was a member of the ROTC in high school and later served in the National Guard in the 1960s. He was involved with the Jaycees and was president of the organization for a short time. He was also involved with the Boy Scouts of America. David was a member of the Arizona Woodcarvers Club, and the Grand Canyon State Woodcarvers; he had a passion for woodcarving, and created beautiful pieces his family and friends treasure. Over his lifetime, David created hundreds of carvings, many winning Blue Ribbon, Best of Class, in the annual Valley Woodcarvers contest. David was an active member of Desert Cross Lutheran Church for over 30 years. David enjoyed traveling, the outdoors, gardening, trips to Lowe’s, and taking his bride out to lunch every Friday. David was a loving husband, patient father, devoted grandfather, and loyal friend to many; he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

David is survived by his wife Glenda, his children, Bryan Friesth, of Lake Bob Sandlin, Texas, Denise (Pat) Hintze, of Phoenix, Arizona, and Doug (Sarah) Friesth, also of Phoenix, Arizona; his grandchildren, Jessica (Brian) Coffman, Calvin Friesth; Brittney, Erin, and Lauren Hintze; and Tate and Trek Friesth; his great grandchildren, Vivian, Moses, and Cora Coffman, and his brother Gene (Dorothy) Friesth of Fort Dodge, Iowa. David was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Nellie Friesth, brother, Gerald Friesth, and sister, Cheryl (Friesth) Pontius.
