Norbert Alig

Norbert J. Alig, 92, of Fort Dodge passed away Sunday, May 5, 2024 at Friendship Haven.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Friday, May 10, 2024 at Holy Trinity Church. Burial will follow at Corpus Christi Cemetery. A visitation will be 4:00 to 6:00 PM Thursday at Laufersweiler Funeral Home.

Norbert is survived by his wife, Mardell Alig of Fort Dodge; step children, JoAnn Coleman, Joe Jordison, Julie (Pat) O’Connor, Jerry (Timi) Jordison, and Jolene (Bob) Daniels; 6 grandchildren, James IV (Amanda) Coleman, Jenny Telschaw, Alissa O’Connor, Matt (Katie) O’Connor, Breanna (Aaron) Oestmann, and Brandon Daniels; 8 great-grandchildren; 4 nephews and 1 niece, Chuck Winkleback, Bill Winkleback, Tom Winkleback, John Winkleback, and Jeanell Piconi; 16 great nieces and nephews and 25 great-great nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Bertha (Ernst) Alig and sister, Jeanette.

Norbert Joseph Alig, son of Wilbur Joseph Alig and Bertha Catherine Ernst was born December 22, 1931 in Pocahontas County. He attended area schools and was baptized and confirmed in St. Margaret’s Church in Pocahontas. Norbert played basketball during his high school years and graduated from Rolfe High School in 1949. After high school he farmed with his parents for over 44 years and later took care of them as they got older. Norbert maintained St. Margaret’s church in Rolfe and assisted the priests there for many years. He lent his helping hands to widows and their children for many years as well. He was a quiet man who showed others his love through his actions. On July 3, 1999, he was united in marriage to Mardell Jordison. He was a great husband and role model for his 5 stepchildren. The couple enjoyed going to Texas with friends for music, dancing and just living the good life. After retiring, he enjoyed fishing trips with his friends. Norbert was the president of the Foresters Organization and the Lion’s Club for numerous years. His last 6 years were spent at the Gardens, Friendship Haven.
