Fred McPherson

Fred C. McPherson, 88, of Algona, formerly of Fort Dodge, died Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona.

A service honoring Fred’s life will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 3, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church with the Rev. Jerry Raether and Rev. Briton Nelson officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors presented by the United States Air Force and V.F.W. Post No. 1856. The visitation is from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. on Sunday at Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Fort Dodge.

Frederick Charles McPherson, the son of William and Jessie (Jager) McPherson, was born April 15, 1936, in Hawarden. He graduated from Hawarden High School in 1955. On March 16, 1957, Fred was united in marriage to Sharon Harvey from Akron, IA. To this union 5 children were born. From 1956 to 1959, Fred served in the United States Air Force, serving in Puerto Rico, Texas, California, and Wyoming. Following his discharge, he began employment in 1960 with Northwestern Bell, US West and Qwest before retiring in 1998.

Fred is survived by his wife of 67 years, Sharon; his children, Deb (Randy) Gregerson, Moorland; Terry McPherson, Fort Dodge; Scott (Clarice Steinbach) McPherson, West Des Moines; Angie (Chris) Fraker, Algona; son-in-law Roger Moeller, Carlisle; grandchildren Micah (Kelsey) Moeller, Colton Moeller, Tyler McPherson, Morgan and Alayna Fraker; great grandchildren, Milo and Riley; sisters-in-law Darlene, Vivian, and Barb. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Kathy Moeller, his granddaughter Madison Fraker, his sisters, Genevieve McMillan, Dorothy Harvey, Alma DeJong, his brothers, James, Milo, Donald, Raymond, Mike, James, and Bruce McPherson.

Fred was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing, garage sales, tinkering with things and especially treasured time spent with his grandchildren. He will always be remembered for his witty sense of humor and his many uses of his yellow rope.

In lieu of flowers, memorials will be directed to the Prince of Peace, Organ Fund.
