Delores Jochimsen

Delores Jochimsen, 95, of Fort Dodge, passed away May 21, 2024, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Monday, May 27, 2024, at Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church with burial to follow at North Lawn Cemetery.

Delores Helena Michaelsen, the adopted daughter of Thomas and Marie (Sievers) Michaelsen, was born October 22, 1928, in Crawford County, Iowa. She taught in rural schools for three years after graduating from Denison High School. In 1949, she married Ralph Jochimsen of Westside and they lived in Omaha until 1952 when they took over the family farm south of Vail. In 1962, they moved to Fort Dodge. Delores became a staff writer and reporter for the Messenger from 1969 to 1993 when she retired. She then spent 30 years with Foster Grandparents as a teacher’s helper, from which her second retirement was prompted by the covid pandemic.

Surviving are her children Steven (Barbara “Bobbi”) Jochimsen of Hemp Hill, TX, Clark Jochimsen of Fort Dodge, Gary Jochimsen of Mason City, Kenda Jochimsen (Joe Malek) of Springfield, IL; grandchildren Michelle (Kevin) Albanasi, Andrea (Jason) Young, Lauren (Chris) Coleman, Kelsey (Jessie) Millang and Gina (Bobbie) Slaven, great grandchildren Isabelle, Ireland and Hudson Coleman, Knox, Jax and Molly Millang, Everett and Callahan Slaven, Pieper and Avery Albanasi, and Evan Young.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 11 siblings, her husband Ralph and daughter-in-law Teresa.
