Delores Barnes
Delores J. Barnes, 87, passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at the Norwalk Nursing and Rehab Center. Delores’s wish was to be cremated and have a simple service. Visitation will be held from 1:00-1:30 p.m. with the committal service at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, May 24, 2024 at the Chapel of Peace Mausoleum at North Lawn Cemetery in Fort Dodge. Arrangements have been entrusted with Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Harold W. Barnes, 87, passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2022 at the Regency Care Center in Norwalk, IA. A private family service has already been held for Harold.
Delores was born on December 5, 1936 to Roy and Virginia (Wynn) Hefley. Harold “Spud” was born on February 7, 1936 to Harold V. and Charolette M. (Kallensrud) Barnes. They both grew up and attended school in Barnum, Harold graduating in 1955 and Delores in 1956. They were united in marriage on August 11, 1955 and they made their home in the Fort Dodge and surrounding area. Delores and Harold were members of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and Our Savior Lutheran Church in Callender. Harold served in the U.S. Army in Taiwan, the Army National Guard and the Air National Guard. Over the years he worked for the Coats Company in Fort Dodge, the Grain Elevator in Farnhamville and Hormel in Fort Dodge. Harold enjoyed gardening, woodworking, camping and fishing. Delores worked for Globe Union and then the Fort Dodge Laboratories until her retirement. She enjoyed doing housework, camping and entertaining.
Delores and Harold are survived by their children Michael (Karen) of Norwalk, IA, Patrick (Teresa) of Norwalk, IA and Pamela (Kerry) Gladwell of West Richland, WA; 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; siblings Connie (Jim) Gordon, Jeffrey (Sandy) Hefley of FL, and Donald (Judi) Hefley of Fort Dodge. They were preceded in death by both sets of parents Harold and Charolotte Barnes, Roy and Virginia Hefley and Delores’ siblings Roy, Harris, John, Helen and Lucille and Harold’s sister Susan Kostor.
