Patrick Trusty

Patrick “Pat” Edward Trusty, 77, of Fort Dodge, died Thursday, March 28, 2024, at his home. Laufersweiler Funeral Home is serving the family. No formal services are planned.

Patrick was born December 23, 1946, at Mercy Hospital, Fort Dodge, IA. He attended Sacred Heart School and St. Edmond High School, graduating from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1966.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1966 to 1970. Pat made three combat cruises to Vietnam as a Plane Captain and Aviation Electrician Mate (AE3), Petty Officer 3rd Class (E-4) with Fighter Squadron VF-154 “Black Knights” (F4 Phantom II Jet Squadron) attached to the Aircraft Carrier USS Ranger CVA-61.

Pat received an A.A. degree from Iowa Central Community College, Fort Dodge, IA, in 1974; a B.S. degree in Geography from Arizona State University (ASU), Tempe, AZ, in 1977; graduated from a two-year management development program at ASU's Center for Executive Development in 1988; received a Master of Technology degree in environmental management (Hazardous Materials & Waste Management) from ASU in 1992.

In 1986, Pat married Jane Marie Redlinger in Chandler, AZ, where they established their home and had one child, a daughter, Emily Marie, in 1988. He worked as a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) Lab Manager for the Department of Geology (Center for Solid State Science) at Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ (1981-1992); as a Mobile-Lab Environmental/Chemist for Transwest Geochem, Scottsdale, AZ, (1992-1995); as an Environmental Planner for Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG), Phoenix, AZ (1995-1996); as Environmental Protection and Public Works Director for the Ak-Chin Indian Community, Maricopa, AZ (1997-2005); for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) via Senior Service America (SSAI) as a Solid Waste Circuit Rider for Native American Indian tribes in Arizona and throughout southern California, U.S. EPA Region 9, San Francisco, CA (2006-2007).

Pat returned to Fort Dodge in 2008 where he enjoyed motorcycle riding, spending time with old and new friends, and visiting long distance with his daughter in Arizona.

Pat is survived by his daughter Emily Marie Miner, (Austin, TX) and his grandson, Logan Maxwell Miner, (Austin, TX). Pat was preceded in death by his parents Donald Vincent and Rose “Marie” (Walsh) Trusty; and brother Gary Alan Trusty, Fort Dodge, IA.
