Margaret Broer

Margaret Florence (Mundt) Broer was born on September 10, 1936, in Ida Grove, IA to Charlotte and Fred Mundt. She was raised in Ida Grove and was a member of the marching band, womens’ basketball team, school leadership, home-coming queen, and life guarded as she loved the water. She also had a horse. Marg went on to attend the University of Iowa. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority and active on campus. She was part of the Hawkeye women’s synchronized swimming team, called “the Seals.” She earned her Teaching Degree as her passion was working with children. Marg met Dick in a marriage & family class during college. They were married on August 14, 1960, in Ida Grove, IA (Marg’s hometown).

They soon moved to St. Paul MN where Dick began his work and Marg was a kindergarten teacher. She loved children and helping others. Above all, faith and family were what mattered most to Marg. Dick and Marg moved to Fort Dodge after a few years in St. Paul and Mankato. Dick had begun a career with Northwestern Mutual Life and Marg was a full-time care giver to Melanie and Valerie. Marg was active and served in numerous volunteer capacities at First United Methodist Church, and then, First Presbyterian Church where she served on several committees, Sunday School leadership, and volunteered.

Marg was very active in the Fort Dodge community, which she called home. She was a troop leader for Campfire Girls many years, coached basketball to elementary school girls, member of TTT, PEO, Cotillion, volunteer at the hospital, and other volunteer organizations as well as supporting the public schools in which Mel and Val attended. Her passion was to help and serve others. Marg had countless friends as she loved spending time with her friends who she held near and dear to her heart. She was in several bridge groups along with a couples’ bridge group over the years. She was an avid Dodger and Hawkeye fan, as well as St. Edmonds and Iowa Central Community College supporter.

Marg had an incredible sense of humor and was a joy to be around. She loved people and serving others. She especially loved raising her two girls and being a constant presence and influence in their lives.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters Melanie Krogman Broer (San Diego, CA) and Valerie Ruden Broer (Rochester, MN) and their spouses, John Krogman and John Ruden; four grandchildren include Emily and Jackson Krogman, and Jamie and Jessie Ruden; her sister-in-law, Sylvia Mundt (CA), nieces and nephews, and other extended family.

The family cordially invites you to celebrate her life with them on Saturday, April 27th at First Presbyterian Church in Fort Dodge, IA. 1111 5th Avenue North. Service at 11:00 with catered lunch following. Arrangements are entrusted to Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
