Joseph “Joe” Wald

Joseph “Joe” Wald, 74, of Bradgate, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2024, at his home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at 10:30 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Humboldt. Mass will be live streamed via Lentz Funeral Home's website. Interment will take place at St. John's Cemetery in Gilmore City. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Lentz Funeral Home in Gilmore City. A Scripture Service will follow the visitation at 7:00 PM at Lentz Funeral Home in Gilmore City. Services have been entrusted to Lentz Funeral Home of Gilmore City.

Joseph Henry Wald, son of Herbert A. and Regina C. (Gladbach) Wald, was born on July 31, 1949, in Fort Dodge. Joe graduated from St. Edmond's High School in Fort Dodge with the class of 1967. On June 14, 1969, Joe was united in marriage to Rebecca “Sue” Stearns at St. John's Catholic Church in Gilmore City. Joe wore many hats: custom farmer, welder and self-taught mechanic. He worked at Martin Marietta Limestone Quary for 23 years, and most recently helped his daughter and grandson with the farming.

Joe was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church where he earned the title of 3rd Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. Joe loved his Bradgate community where he served on the Planning and Zoning Board and was “Santa” for Bradgate Christmas.

Joe is survived by his wife: Sue of 54 years; children: Valinda “Lindy” Shelgren of Humboldt and her children: Machensey (Colin Chabot) Shelgren and Brady (Madi Frideres) Shelgren; Leslynn (Tom) Kleespies of Longmont, Colorado, and their children: Bailey and Clay Kleespies; Kaylene (Scott) Lang of Fort Dodge and their children: Bennet Lang, Thomas (Emilie Wendell) Lang and Gabriel Lang; Joel (Vanessa Whittle) Wald of Vienna, Missouri, and his children: Ayden and Rosemary Wald; Kristelle (Jason) Caquelin of Longmont, Colorado, and their children: Sydney, Taryn and Brook Caquelin; and Cale Wald of Humboldt; sister: Mary Ann (Rich) Gawtry of Lincoln, California, and numerous other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Herbert and Regina Wald; son-in-law: Rod Shelgren and brother: Fredrick Wald in infancy.
