Geraldine May Balke, 100, of Fort Dodge, died March 6, 2024, at the Grandview Care Center, Dayton, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Monday, March 11, 2024, at Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church with interment to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include her children Carolyn (Stan) Rogers of Warsaw, MO, Roger (Lucy) Balke of Fort Dodge, Stan (Frances) Balke of Eugene, MO, 10 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth, son Larry (Merna) Balke, daughter Cindy (Terry) Elliott, grandson Christian Thompson, her parents.
Geraldine May Bergman, the oldest of the ten children of Chris and Esther (Borchers) Bergman, was born May 28, 1923, in Mora, MO. She graduated from high school. On June 14, 1942, Geraldine married Kenneth Balke in Sedalia, MO. The couple moved to Des Moines in 1956 and then to Fort Dodge in 1968. While raising her family, Gerry enjoyed gardening, crocheting, baking, crossword puzzles, playing cards and reading. Geraldine worked in the school lunch program with Arey Elementary until her retirement in 1991. Geraldine was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
